Health Hazards (Acute and Chronic): Chronic overexposure to dust containing respirable-size crystalline silica can cause delayed lung injury (silicosis) and the inhalation of dust containing crystalline silica may contribute to pre-existing pulmonary diseases such as asthma and lung disorders associated with the smoking of tobacco. The State of California has determined crystalline silica to cause cancer.<= /b>
Carcinogenicity: = &nb= sp; = &nb= sp;IARC Monograph Volume 68, 1997 concludes that there is sufficient evidence that inhaled crystalline silica causes cancer in humans. IARC classification: Gr= oup I.
